Hello,
I am a 22 year old undergraduate at Northeastern University. I am originally from Grenoble, France where I was in the French educational system until I graduated high school and moved to Boston for college. I was raised in an American household as both my parents are American and since I spoke English at home I am as comfortable speaking English as French.
I am currently studying Information Science which is very similar to the more common degree in Computer Science. In fact most of our classes are the same as CS students, we need to take the fundamental programming courses and algorithms course as well as courses in computer systems and networks and distributed systems. However we have additional IS classes that only are required for us, such a course about how to design an information system for an organization, a database design class and a class in human computer interaction. If you want to learn more about the classes you can check out the curriculum here. Also here is a page about the overall learning outcomes from College of Computer and Information Science.
My interests are in applying what I'm learning to the health industry. I volunteered in the mobile health research group in the Computer Science department led by Stephen Intille. His research is focused on measuring and motivating behavior change using sensors, here's a video of him explaining his research. You can also read this paper I wrote for my "Advanced Writing in the Technical Disciplines" course. I was working on creating an algorithm to detect eating habits using de-identified transactional data gathered from Northeastern's Husky Card. I am planning working in the Health Informatics field after graduation. I am interested in user experience, data analysis, data visualization and machine learning. From the health side I'm interested in habits, I want to learn how to help people change habits in order to help them achieve some health goal.
On this site you can find the blog I maintained for my Information System Dev and Design course. I was also required to post my assignments online for that class and my Human Computer Interaction course so you can take a look at those as well. The assignments are usually real life situations that we will face post graduation so if you are an employer, take a look!
My hobbies include snowboarding, wakeboarding, kitesurfing, scuba diving, golf and I used to do trampolining at gymnastics club in high school. Unfortunately because of injuries from a car accident, I am not able to do many of these currently but should be up in running soon.
